The Russian Arabian
Daidarabocchi, Mirror Manor Arabians
Mares | Stallions
The Russian Arabian is a strain of the worldfamous Arabian breed. This particular strain originates in the small picturesque valley of Northern Caucasus, where Count S.A. Stroganov introduced the first stock of purebred Arabians. The stud set up by this count was called Tersk Stud. They imported horses from all over the world. The first horses at the stud were French Arabians, Crabbet Arabians, Polish Arabians and later Egyptian Arabians. From those, the Russians bred their own strain, called the Russian Arabian.
Read more about the origin of the Tersk Stud here.
Pure 'Straight Russian Arabians' must trace all their lines to horses purchased and/or bred by the Tersk Stud in Russia.
The Tersk Stud was not only famous for its Arabians, but also for its Akhal-Tekes. They have some of the finest representatives of this extraordinary breed. Therefore, we allow Arabo-Tekes to be crossed with several of our mares as well. They must, however, carry at least some Russian Arab blood.
As of 2013, Silver-Moon Studfarm and Mirror Manor Arabians joined forces to promote the Russian Arabian in both Italy and Switzerland. We work together to breed and show the finest examples of the breed. An old prejudice against the Russian Arabian is that they would not be as beautiful or athletic compared to other strains of the Arabian. However, Russian Arabians have proven themselves more than worthy as race horses and producers. Mirror Manor Arabians and us will prove that Russian Arabians can, and should be regarded as highly as the other strains of the Arabian breed.
We allow our mares to be crossed with Mirror Manor Arabians' straight Russian stallions, as well as their Arabo-Teke stallions. MMA does not offer their mares as broodmares for the public.
Breed Description: overall light build, distinctive head shape (dished), refined body, high tail carriage, big intelligent eyes, small muzzle, elegant appearance. Purebred Arabians can be chestnut, black, bay, grey and rabicano. Sabino is quite common in the Russian Arabian, though the Tersk Stud has recently tried to reduce the number of horses with high whites.
Naming Guidelines: Maximum of 21 characters including spaces, no more than 4 separate words. No numerical prefixes or suffixes or suffixes of Jr./ Sr.. Punctuation, apostrophes or diacritical markings are not allowed in the name. The only valid characters are letters A to Z, space and dash.
Our Program:
As said before, we work closely together with Mirror Manor Arabians to produce fine examples of the breed. We particularly favour the great stallions Nimroz, Peleng and Muscat. We have horses mostly of the Naseem (Skowronek) and Amurath sirelines, which are both Polish (Skowronek only became a stud at Crabbet Park later). We have one mare who is an outcross on the Egyptian sireline of Aswan (Nazeer), but otherwise our horses carry Egyptian blood as well. We try to breed Straight Russians mainly, but we do allow them to cross with other strains of Arab as well.
